Complex Programmable Logic Devices CPLDs are user programmable devices meant to replace complex logic circuits with just a single chip. With it, you can easily build (and change at will) the equivalent functions of complex digital circuits that may otherwise require hundreds of ICs when built with conventional logic gates. This without even requiring any physical hardware changes! Learning how to use one is an important skill any serious digital hardware designer must possess.
